As a long time hockey player and fan, the role of the goon is something I understand all to well. Good too see a documentary covering the topic.

Looking forward to watching this. And these things just don’t happen like this anymore.

If you're excited for this, go watch Goon. It may star Sean William Scott (a.k.a. Stiffler), but it's a good performance.

Also recommend The Last Gladiators (think it’s on Netflix). Mostly about Chris Nilan but covers a lot of other goons too.
And a must is The Broad Street Bullies (youtube) about the 1970's Flyers who were pretty much the first to use goons and win by purposely beating the crap out of the other teams.

Ya the Chris Nilan story is a pretty sad one, but not nearly as bad as Boogaard or Rypien. Actually met Rick Rypien a few times at hockey schools. He is from the next town over and it really hit that community hard.

I was always a Probert fan, him dying showed that even when you’re clean you still have huge health risks to deal with

Not sure ol’ Bobby was too clean but not as bad as a lot of them.

Yeah I mean in his playing days, definitely far from clean. Even got caught at the canadian border with amphetamines in his underwear. Seemed like a guy who was doing better in life. But man, that documentary with Nilan really puts it into perspective the pain, physical and emotional those guys went thru
